Vocal Music or 'Gaayan' (Singing)  in Indian Classical Music is considered most important among three main areas. Other two Vaadan(Playing an Instrument) and Nritya (Dancing). I have laid out some vital aspects of Vocal Music training in this article.

Indian Classical Music or Hindustani Raga Vocal Music learners needs lots of practice or Riyaaz to polish their voice and improve performance. This podcast addresses a few important points which can probably help indian classical vocalists to follow the methods of best practices.

Announcements are over and the anchor leaves the stage. Lights brighten and the Tanpura fills the air with the magic of Sa-Pa-Sa. The artist picks the swar and announces the raga. The eyes are closed, hall is silent.  Only one sound that is slowly and gradually filling the space is the voice of the performer. The swar vistar and the aalaap is joining him thread by thread with his God through his soul. He is walking on the path laid in front of him by the chalan of the raga he is rendering.

It was a fine morning of late November. Lord Shiva’s temple was full with the devotees gathered there to greet the God with the fragrant flowers, rosy garland, pure chandan, clear water and so on. I sat in front of my dear lord Mahadev and offered him Raag Bhairav through my Bansuri. The slow movement of swaras kept gradually merging me to the creator of Raag Bhairav, himself.

Raag Bhairav is as warm  and comforting as Lord Shiva himself. It has a simple swaroop yet is one of the most challenging raagas to perform. 

There are mainly two styles of classical music in India. Hindustani and Carnatic Music. Learn the main difference which is listed below. Carnatic is prevalent style in southern India and Hindustani is popular in rest of sub-continent. Also practiced in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. This is not easy to mention all the similarities and differences in this single article. But I tried to touch some significant areas of these two very old and rich styles of Indian Music.

Raga Bhairav is one of the basic and very important Raga or Raag  in Indian Classical Music or Hindustani Sangeet. It is included in 10 Thaats in Bhatkhande system. In Indian Classical Music or Hindustani Raag or Raga, Sarang is also known as Vrindavani Sarang or Bindrabani Sarang is pentatonic (5 notes) Scale Raga. It is parent raga of Sarang Ragang Family, get it's name from folk origin in Uttar Pradesh’s Vrindavan or Lord Krishna’s birth place.

Raga Kafi or Raag Kaafi is very Popular Raga for semi-classical composition in Indian Classical Music. Its chosen for light or semi classical or short-duration rendition compositions like Hori, Kajri, Thumri etc also.
